River Crossing - Problem Solving Puzzle - Primary

River Crossing: The Perilous Plank Puzzle has a very simple aim: to get the hiker across the river safely. River Crossing contains 40 challenge cards, a pegboard and game frame, 5 magnetic planks of 3 different sizes, 20 tree stumps and a magnetic hiker.

To play the game, select one of the challenge cards and set up the peg board as directed. Then move the planks between the tree stumps and guide the hiker across the river. One clever feature of River Crossing is that the hiker and planks are magnetized making the plank lifting easy for young and older players alike.

River Crossing has different levels, from Beginner to Expert. While it suggests that it is for a single player, it would be better to have an adult working with children when they first begin this game.  Answers are given on the back of the card and looking at these is a good way of teaching the children how to solve this type of problem if they are experiencing any difficulties.
