Free parents' courses are run by the Family Learning Organisation, which consists of tutors Kate O’Hanlon, Liz Jones and Colette Delargy.
Each tutor covers a particular topic area:
Kate covers Language and Literacy.
Liz deals with Home issues such as positive mental health and helping children in the technical age..
Colette looks at issues children are finding difficult in maths and show parents how to make things easier for their children at home.
The courses are run through the Education Authority and form part of the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme in the southern area of NI: Newry, Armagh, Craigavon and Dungannon.
These schools are offered a list of sessions and they select whatever is appropriate for the pupils. Schools that opt into the programme invite parents to attend the relaxed and informative 90 minute sessions. The emphasis is on boosting parents’ confidence and skills so that they cope better at home.
The following programmes have now been agreed with the Education Authority. Please contact your school if you are interested in attending.
We are delighted that the Family Learning programmes on Maths, Literacy and parenting have been going so well.
